WORLD’S FIRST AI-GENERATED PLAYING CARDS

In collaboration with Red Black Inc, we proudly present the World’s first A.I.-generated playing cards, Singularity (2022). To leave as much of the design work up to AI, both the box and the cards were created using a variety of early-stage text-to-image generators and tied together by Adobe’s built-in AI features.

However impressive this new technology is, it is by no means perfect. Fairest had to create hundreds of images and spend days refining and tying them together to achieve this result. We experienced the image generators as just another tool in his tool chest. Just like a spray can, Photoshop, a camera, or a simple pencil. Nevertheless, this development will imply a significant shift in the creative industry, just like the introduction of creative software and digital camera.

THE CONCEPT

Singularity is a hypothetical future point when technological growth becomes uncontrollable and irreversible, resulting in unforeseeable changes to human civilization. It is believed we will reach singularity anywhere between 2036 and 2060.

The box box gives you a glimpse into a futuristic post-singularity World where AI dominates. The face cards feature semi-humanoid Kings, Queens, and Jacks, who rule over the four post-singularity empires represented by the Aces. A world in which humans are diminished to mere court jesters to these new rulers. The deck contains small AI-related easter eggs.

All the Face cards, Aces, and two Jokers are AI-generated. So are the symbols, pip backgrounds, and the numbered seal. The box fits seamlessly together and is printed on the outside and inside. And all the cards laid out in the correct order fit together like one giant artwork.
